Job overview

The Quality Manager is a key member of the management team empowered with the design, implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System for the whole of Trust’s Pathology Retained Services

To manage and coordinate the Quality Management System for the benefit of the users of the service and its staff so that the departments and staff will sustain and lead a quality service, whilst meeting both regulatory and accreditation requirements and in compliance with the Trust’s Corporate Governance strategy.

Main duties of the job

To undertake the duties of a Quality Manager as required by Accreditation and Auditing bodies, such as, the Human Tissue Act and UKAS

To advise on the configuration and be responsible for implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the quality management system. With overall responsibility for the associated electronic Quality Management Information System, (QIMS) ensuring the provision of an effective Quality Pathology Service.

To ensure the organisations Clinical Governance and Risk Management strategies are coordinated, progressed, and embedded in Pathology Quality Management Information System.

To provide a link into the Trust’s Corporate Governance and ensure information flows and is communicated in both directions.

To prepare the Pathology Governance Improvement Plan and be involved in the presentation.

To undertake sufficient routine work in a discipline of Biomedical Science to enable you to maintain your HCPC registration through Continual Professional Development

To ensure that Quality Assurance techniques are carried out in the disciplines ensuring the methods and standards are adhered to. 

To keep abreast with Local, National and European regulations, policy, legislation and guidance which could impact on the QIMS and disseminate and communicate this knowledge appropriately in an understandable format.

We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 5 years previous experience a managerial/supervisory role at departmental level, ideally in NHS / HPA / Pathology / Scientific setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality standards such as ISO15189:2012, MHRA ( Blood safety & Quality Regulation 2005/50) and Human Tissue Act.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of UKAS ISO15189 assessment
  • To hold a quality management qualification and /or willingness to work towards
  • Registered on the International register of certified auditors or a willingness to work towards

Education

Essential criteria
  • To be educated to MSc or Equivalent in a relevant Biomedical discipline.
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • To have a basic knowledge of all disciplines within Pathology and maintain high level knowledge of principle discipline.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
