Job overview

To provide daily management of the outpatients nursing staff, whilst liaising with other service users in the provision of outpatients services, ensuring that quality services are provided for the patients/service users, resources are efficiently and effectively deployed and that skills and competencies within the department are maintained and developed.

Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To facilitate the daily running of the outpatients clinics ensuring safe staffing levels, escalating any deficits to Manager as soon as it is recognised.
  • Demonstrate effective roster management and managing absence.
  • Liaise with Manager/Service manager, staff regarding clinic capacity.
  • Participate in providing an effective outpatients nursing service sensitive to patients’ needs, based on up-to-date research practices.
  • Provide nursing care required by patients during their stay within the department, supervising qualified and untrained staff.
  • Ensure patients are kept informed of any delays and speak with any patients that are unhappy with delays.
  • Empathy and understanding for patients attending the department, ensuring privacy and dignity are maintained at all times.
  • Act at all times as the patients advocate.
