Job overview

The Speech and Language Therapy team at Princess Alexandra Hospital are looking for a therapist to join our team on a permanent basis. Individuals seeking to develop advanced dysphagia and leadership skills, or a current Band 5 therapist seeking to progress within the acute setting would be ideal for this role.

You will independently manage a caseload of adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders, actively initiating and participating in the interdisciplinary decision-making around patient care and developing service delivery initiatives.

This is a full time position. Flexible working requests and job shares will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The caseload consists predominantly of adults with a range of acquired disorders of swallowing and communication. The scope of practice is predominantly inpatients in the Princess Alexandra Hospital but may also include reviews of patients post discharge, for example by telephone.

You'll assist the Lead SLT in developing services including patient, carer and staff supervision, education and training programmes.

You'll also provide clinical support to more junior colleagues working in the team, and provide specialist advice in the clinical area of complex dysphagia.
