Job overview

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Consultant Paediatrician.


These are very exciting times for Princess Alexandra Hospital as the new building in the outskirts of Harlow is being designed. Our most recent 2019 CQC report have rated us as "Good" overall with "Outstanding" in the category of "Caring".  Our GMC Training surveys have consistently ranked us in the Top 10 Trusts within the East of England for the last 5 years.


Our consultant body consists of 12 motivated and enthusiastic Paediatricians with multiple special interests. We take great pride in our Team-working ethos, and looking for a colleague to complement and enhance this aspect of our working lives.

Main duties of the job

The post holder, with other consultants will be expected to;

  • Attend consultant meetings, the monthly Clinical Governance meetings and other meetings relevant to the service.
  • Contribute to the recruitment of clinical staff.
  • Contribute to the wider management aspects of the department, which include the future annual planning process, improving performance against local and national targets.
  • Foster multidisciplinary team working.
  • Develop good working relationships with specialist teams, support services and Primary Care colleagues.
  • Be involved in the establishment of care pathways.

We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

Person specification

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • On specialist register in Paediatrics or within six months of CCT
  • Completion of subspecialty training in PEM/ ambulatory care, or able to demonstrate equivalent training
Desirable criteria
  • Other relevant qualification, e.g. MD,MSc
  • Training in Relevant area specialties to support Clinical Experience in Delivering ambulatory/HDU care

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate Experience of or training in managing trauma e.g. ATLS/APLS
  • Broad past and continuing experience in General and Emergency Paediatrics including A&E, inpatient, ambulatory care and outpatients.
  • Leadership skills
Desirable criteria
  • Simulation experience
