Job overview
We are looking for a motivated and hardworking individual to work in the Blood Sciences department based at Ipswich Hospital.
You should be a confident, conscientious and enthusiastic individual, with laboratory experience, capable of careful and accurate work.
What we need from you:
- Foundation degree or equivalent, although not essential for the role
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience of working in an NHS biomedical science laboratory
- Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and to work flexibly.
- Willingness to participate in the out of hours service
You will receive training and supervision whilst working towards required competencies to provide a safe and quality service for our patients.
Main duties of the job
Performs a number of healthcare science clinical/technical/scientific activities under supervision, e.g. performs standard biochemical/haematological tests.
Maintains clinical records in relation to activities carried out; may input/interrogate test results of others.
May be required to supervise, organise and allocate work and/or train less experienced staff in own area.
To work flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 days per week service.
The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, pus, urine, faeces, and respiratory secretions.
Maintain and promote professional image of the pathology department.
