Practice Educator - Endoscopy

Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Colchester endoscopy team as the unit’s Practice Educator. This is an exciting time to join the team as we prepare to move into our new purpose-built unit and expand our existing nursing team. The post is a 1 year fixed-term contract and will support our units at Colchester and Clacton CDC.

You will work in collaboration with the endoscopy management team to assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of staff training programmes, monitoring and evaluating all training including supporting in mandatory training compliance with the aim to maintaining and enhancing the clinical skills of the endoscopy unit.

This role will have both clinical and leadership components, the successful candidate will need to be able to work autonomously under pressure and manage the mental and emotional demands of the role that requires flexibility, exceptional organisational and interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the job

You will work under the direction of the Endoscopy Unit Lead nurse in supporting learners in the workplace.

You will involve working with a range of learners such as those undertaking programmes for overseas and return to practice, supervised practice, pre- and post-registration programmes and those in bands 3-5.

You will work with the department to share knowledge and skills and support to their colleagues through education.

You will enhance the quality of the practice-learning environment by providing support, educational input and development for mentors / educators and through acting as a role model in clinical practice with learners.

You will be expected to use your own initiative, analytical skills and Judgement to work autonomously to identify objectives.

You will be responsible for promoting evidence-based practice through the facilitation of clinical education and staff development strategies to a range of health care professionals working in the unit.

You will support the delivery of high-quality standards and act as a role model to others whilst demonstrating the Trusts ‘OAK’ values (Optimistic, Appreciative and Kind)

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration experience, including significant experience as senior band 5 within an endoscopy Department
  • Fully competent in all aspects of Endoscopic Procedures and have knowledge of JETS workforce.
  • Recent experience of working with nursing students in an acute setting
  • Experience of presenting / teaching within a formal setting
Desirable criteria
  • Working within the Emergency GI on call

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC Register (Adult Nursing)
  • Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Preceptorship Training
  • Hold or be working towards a health-related degree.
  • Relevant Specialist course (JETS Workforce / TNT course)

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of pre-registration nursing programmes and NMC standards relating to education
  • Able to work with outlook, word, PowerPoint and excel well as trust training programmes
  • Knowledge of coaching models of mentorship

Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
