Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide maternity leave cover for a band 6 Children’s Oncology / Haematology CNS. This is fixed term/secondment post until 22nd June 2026, for 30 hours per week.

The CNS will join an established team dedicated to managing cancer and haematology conditions in children; we are a busy service with a caseload working across North East Essex. 

You will provide specialist clinical advice and care to children and young people with cancer and haematology conditions.

We are looking for a confident innovative and experienced children’s nurse who will be required to work within a multidisciplinary team providing support to acute and community services.  You will need to be a good team player and be able to develop collaborative working relationships with other healthcare professionals, services and agencies.

 

 

Main duties of the job

·                To act as a specialised practitioner, with high levels of autonomy, in the prioritisation and management of a caseload of children with cancer/ haematology conditions, intervening appropriately whilst ensuring all interventions are based on evidence based standards of care and best practice guidelines

·             Manage own caseload of patients, working within remit of own professional registration, national legislation and working within Trust policies and guidance

·                Responsible for initiating appropriate and timely consultation and /or referral when beyond the level of own expertise/knowledge

·                Liaising and working with the Primary Treatment Centre, CCNT and palliative care teams in assessing the child and family’s physical, psychological and social needs, implementing all agreed management plans with the child and family and making appropriate referrals

Qualifications

  • Registered Sick Children’s Nurse/ Registered Nurse (Child)
  • Bsc
  • Mentorship / teaching equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Masters degree
  • Oncology related course /recognised qualification (eg. ENB 240 or equivalent, must have proven experience in speciality)
  • Independent and Supplementary Prescribing course or willingness to undertake
  • Post-registration chemotherapy qualification
  • Advanced Communication Skills Training
