Job overview

We have an opportunity for an Associate Practitioner, part time 15 hours per week, to join our team based at Ipswich within our Point of Care Team (POCT). These hours are to be worked Monday and Tuesday one week and Thursday and Friday the next week, subject to change upon needs of the service.

In this role, you will perform duties on our wards and outpatient areas where you will need good communication skills to train ward staff on the use of the Point of Care devices, to undergo maintenance of these devices and undertake audits. You will also work within the office undertaking audits, inputting data and maintaining quality records in relation to the Point of Care devices.

Please note you will not be testing any samples in the laboratory as this role does not include any laboratory work.

You may be requested to supervise, organise and allocate work / train less experienced members of the team.

Main duties of the job

Undertake quality assurance procedures and the processing of quality control material as per established protocols on Point of Care devices.

Participate in the day to day management of stock control and usage. This includes maintaining stock levels and records and monitor usage to ensure efficient use where appropriate.

Be aware of current advances and assist in the introduction of new techniques.  

Clean and maintain equipment to achieve the optimum instrument performance and maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Perform basic troubleshooting in line with established protocols and report any faults to the POCT coordinator.

Supervise, organise and allocate work and/or train less experienced staff. 

Record quality results and maintain integrity and accuracy of POCT data, including data entered by self. 

Assist in audits and where appropriate, propose service improvements.

Education

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate NVQ 3/diploma or equivalent
  • Additional theoretical or applied training to diploma equivalent level
Desirable criteria
  • Working towards Foundation degree or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable knowledge of a range of routine and non-routine healthcare science duties
Desirable criteria
  • Practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory
  • Knowledge of Pathology IT systems
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems
  • Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS
  • European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent
