Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join the team on the Rushmere Medical Day Unit to cover a 9/10 month maternity vacancy commencing summer 2026.

The Rushmere Medical Day Unit is a nurse led, elective care setting which treats patients from all specialties, currently treating up to 30 patients per day.   The procedures undertaken on the Unit consist of a variety of infusions, endocrine tests, biopsies, chest drains, paracentesis, lumbar punctures, transoesophageal echocardiograms, stress echos and venesections.

We are offering the opportunity to work with a highly dedicated, hardworking team of nurses, health care assistants and an admission coordinator.   You must be able to work as part of a team as well as work independently.

We will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to develop their clinical skills in line with the speciality care provided on the Unit.

The unit is open Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00. The position is for 30 hours rostered over various shift times.

Main duties of the job

Ensure that safe, effective and holistic patient care is delivered

Assist patients to fulfil the activities of daily living

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of care in partnership with patients and relatives/carers

Accurately observe patient’s condition and initiate appropriate action

Administer medication safely to patients, including IV and Controlled drugs

Actively participate in safe, timely discharges

Maintain accurate, timely patient records and relevant data collection

Communicate effectively with patients, visitors and staff

Communicate effectively with all members of the Multi professional team.

Participate in patient/carer education e.g. advice about patient’s condition/needs, health promotion.

To safely use clinical equipment relevant to own work area.

Undertake venepuncture and cannulation as appropriate once trained. In  addition any specialist clinical skills that may be required by the area.
