EPUT Is seeking to appoint a highly motivated part time Consultant Psychiatrist in Medical Psychotherapy to shape and deliver high-quality established psychotherapy services within a support multidisciplinary environment based Rectory lane, Loughton.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the Provision of comprehensive service in Medical Psychotherapy for the North West Sector of EPUT, covering Epping, Loughton, Harlow, Stanstead and Dunmow areas.  The post holder will have responsibility for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorder, namely those with complex co-morbidity requiring an integrative psychiatric, psychological and psychotherapeutic approach, in liaison with other key services.

The post holder will also provide clinical leadership and governance to ensure the proper functioning of the Psychotherapy Department and Complex Case Consultation Service. The department is consists of the Consultant Psychiatrist in Medical Psychotherapy, a part-time secretary and core psychiatric trainees who visit the department for training and service provision.

You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide Clinical leadership of the Psychotherapy Service.
  • To triage, assess and prioritise referrals to the service, referrals through discussions with the referrers, with close communication with the Medical Secretary.
  • To provide expert advice and consultation for other teams referring to service or seeking a second opinion and provide clinical guidance on care planning.
  •  To provide a clinical space for Psychiatric and MDT colleagues to discuss complex cases, including personality disorder, Complex PTSD, and patients with multiple psychiatric co-morbidities:-, to facilitate developing a psychotherapeutic formulation, and aide their care planning, management and treatment.
  •   To lead on liaison and collaborative multi-disciplinary and partnership working with other services/agencies within and outside the trust for patients under the care of the service or as part of the referral process.
  •  To undertake psychotherapy assessments for patients referred to the service.
  •   To carry a psychotherapy clinical caseload of complex patients, in individual and group psychotherapy as required.
  • To provide the psychotherapy training and supervision for all junior doctors in the West area of the trust.

  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Registration with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register as a Medical Psychotherapist (CCT in Psychotherapy or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview)
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
  • Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician Status. OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment.
Desirable criteria
  • Additional clinical qualifications in Psychological therapies e.g. TFP (Transference Focused Psychotherapy), MBT (Mentalisation Based Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Based Therapy)
  • Accredited Balint Group Leader accredited by the UK Balint Society
  • On the Specialist Register with qualifications General Adult.
  • Registration with British Psychoanalytic Council as Psychoanalyst or Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.

ELIGIBILITY

Essential criteria
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment.
Desirable criteria
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.

CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
