Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.
Job overview
We are looking for enthusiastic psychological therapists / psychologists to work in our Pain Management team as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary service.
Although the main base for the role(s) will be Broomfield Hospital, we have an Pain Service presence at all sites within MSE (Broomfield, Southend, Basildon & Orsett) and this role may involve also working at one other of our hospital sites.
The team works with complex mental health patients with complex Pain Management issues.
You will be expected to provide specialist psychological assessment and effective evidence based interventions.
We are interested in candidates with specialist skills in at least one of the following specialist psychotherapies: CBT and/or ACT.
We are interested in candidates who have experience in delivering group and 1-2-1 sessions.
You will have a commitment to team working and service user and carer involvement.
Experience of working with diversity in a multicultural setting is vital.
The service offers the opportunity to develop skills in psychosocial interventions for complex difficulties in an MDT setting.
You will be part of a supportive group of colleagues, with good supervision structures and access to opportunities within the wider trust for development of special interests.
The service is supportive of continuing professional development.
These roles are available on a full time, part time or job share basis.
Main duties of the job
You provide psychological screening, psychoeducational information, assessment and treatment to patients and their families within MSE Pain Services, with adult outpatients, based on a holistic formulation using appropriate evidence-based psychological theories, models and practice.
Participate in Pain Service multi-disciplinary team discussions and decision making.
To offer consultation around patients’ psychological care to non-psychological colleagues, and to other, non-professional carers.
Where appropriate to offer reflective spaces to relevant staff as required.
Offer/assist with the delivery of psychoeducational training to members of the Pain Service multi-disciplinary team as required.
Work in ways which are sensitive to the needs of staff/patients from a wide range of racial, cultural and religious backgrounds.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Professional level training in Counselling, Clinical or Health Psychology or Psychological Therapy.
- Registered with a PSA recognised accrediting body, such as HCPC, UKCP, BACP, BABCP and works within the appropriate professional code of conduct.
Desirable criteria
- Additional training in a specific model such as ACT.
- Training and experience in staff training, or group work.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Appropriate demonstrable clinical experience in inpatient or community Mental Health services.
- Skills in the use of psychological assessment, intervention, and management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in an Acute hospital setting and/or with patients with pain conditions.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
