ONE YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT
Would you like to be part of a team that provides the best care for young people aged 13 to 18 and play an instrumental part in their recovery?
EPUT is seeking a dedicated and compassionate NHS Locum Specialty Doctor to join our dynamic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team at Poplar Adolescent Unit based at Rochford Hospital in South Essex. Poplar Adolescent Unit is a generic adolescent ward accepting up to 14 young people, male and female, from 13 to 18 years.
Main duties of the job
This is a one year fixed term contract and unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people experiencing complex mental health challenges. You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team including the Consultant, Specialty Doctor, Psychologists, therapists, nurses and social workers to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. The role involves inpatient responsibilities, contributing to assessment, treatment planning, risk management and ongoing therapeutic interventions.
If you join our Trust we will ensure that you are supported and encouraged to pursue professional development interests and we have excellent links with the medical school at ARU and other educational establishments where we have shared appointments in teaching and research.
You should be eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment. You will also need to provide evidence of achievement of ST1/CT1 competences in psychiatry at time of application and likelihood of achieving CT2 competences in psychiatry by the start date of the post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Observe the Trust’s agreed policies and procedures.
2. Provide, with consultant colleagues, a service in the specialty for the Trust with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department.
3. Honour out-of-hours responsibilities, including rota commitments where contracted.
4. Provide agreed cover for colleague’s periods of leave.
5. Participate in audit and continuing medical education.
6. Contribute to the training of junior medical staff and medical students.
7. Be involved in research and teaching where appropriate.

- Must either have or be eligible for Section 12 (2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983.

Skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Must have prior experience of working in a CAMHS doctor role
- Must have prior experience of working as a specialty doctor in psychiatry
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
- Evidence of achievement of ST1/CT1 competences in psychiatry at time of application and likelihood of achieving CT2 competences in psychiatry by the start date of the post.

- Experience of working with children, young people and families or child and adolescent mental health services.
- Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job and specialty
- Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
- Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the job.
- Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job.
- Knowledge and experience of conducting cognitive assessments is desirable.
- Commitment to clinical governance / improving quality of patient care.
- Clinical governance: Capacity to be alert to dangers or problems. Demonstrates awareness of good decision making. Aware of own limitations. Track record of engaging in clinical governance: reporting errors, learning from errors.
- Audit: evidence of active participation in audit.
- Teaching: evidence of interest and experience in teaching where required in the job.
