Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our wonderful Acute Oncology Service.

You will provide an effective, administrative service, supporting the AOS service(CNS) team across Mid and South Essex NHS.
You will be mainly based at Southend but will be required to communicate effectively across the sites via remote access. To provide support for the AOS service and to liaise with departments across the Trust, general practitioners, patients, relatives and visitors.

Main duties of the job
To provide support for the AOS service, to liaise with departments across the Trust, general practitioners, patients, relatives and visitors
All administrative staff work as part of a team supporting the nursing and management teams in the directorate.
During annual leave and sickness of other members of the team, it will be necessary for the work to be re-distributed to ensure that the service continues to operate safely and efficiently.
It may be necessary for the postholder to carry out the duties of other staff within the wider team.
Registering AOS referrals (ED, AMU, Wards, GP)
Managing AOS patient lists (daily caseloads, new review, follow ups)
Tracking admissions, transfers and discharges for oncology patient
Triage all patient and telephone calls that come through to CNSs and document/record all actions.
Use the dedicated cancer IT systems Beetroot cancer/ Somerset Cancer Register
Preparing and uploading clinic letters and discharge summaries
Managing outgoing correspondence to GP’s and referring teams
Maintaining accurate electronic patient records (careflow)
Organising AOS/oncology MDT meetings (agendas, attendance, minutes)
Collating MDT outcomes and ensuring actions are followed up
Liaising with Oncology, haematology, palliative care, ED, AMU and wards
Handling phone and email queries from wards and clinicians
Ordering stationary and maintaining service databases/spreadsheets

Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE English level (or equivalent qualification)
- Experience qualifications using word processing software
Desirable criteria
- Advanced certificates (NVQ or similar
- Customer service qualification
Experience

- Experience of working as part of a busy team
- Experience dealing with members of the public
- Minimum of 60 words per minute audio typing spee
- Knowledge of an office and reception environment
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience working in a healthcare environment
- Knowledge of the patient administration system
- Knowledge of clinical electronic documentation system
