Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic and professional team at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust as a Macmillan Information and Support Manager.
You will provide leadership and expertise across the organisation, to ensure that people affected by cancer receive personalised information and support from diagnosis onwards as well as develop appropriate educational events and supportive services.
Collaborating with the hospital’s clinical oncology teams, primary care, local hospices and local health and social care agencies to ensure people affected by cancer can access support and information across South East Essex.
Provide expert personalised, holistic information and support to individuals affected by cancer and refer on to appropriate specialist support services as needed.
You will play a key role in the implementation of the NHS Long Term Plan’s personalised care agenda in collaboration with the site specific multidisciplinary oncology teams and be responsible in conjunction with the Deputy Information Manager to recruit, train and manage a team of volunteers, who deliver specific services as well as generic information and support to centre users.
Main duties of the job
You will provide expert personalised support and information to people affected by cancer, covering cancer and its treatment, supportive and palliative care, family/relationships support, stress management, lifestyle coaching, employment and benefits as well as housing and legal issues associated with accessing healthcare.
Provide expert information guidance to healthcare professionals and social care colleagues.
Lead on the development of the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre and to be responsible for the operational management of the service
Be responsible for the management and development of information systems for people affected by cancer across all oncology services, ensuring it is up-to-date, accurate and relevant to our patient population
Work closely with the lead cancer nurse and lead clinician to implement the personalised care programme and ensure patients receive the education and support to manage their condition post treatment and maximise their well-being.
Develop a highly specialised programme for emotional support and wellbeing as well as healthy lifestyle.
Recruit, train, manage and support a team of volunteers in conjunction with the Macmillan Deputy Managers.
Work closely with the lead cancer nurse to involve and incorporate the view and needs of patients and strive to co-design improvements/developments.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse- registered with NMC
- Post graduate qualification or equivalent experience at AfC band 6/7 or above in cancer/oncology
- Advanced experience of working in an multidisciplinary role within cancer
- Advanced communication and negotiating skills
Desirable criteria
- Post-registration qualification in cancer nursing, cancer/oncology/palliative care or long-term conditions of cancer origin
- Cancer service information and support experience and knowledge
- Breast cancer experience/met breast experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post registration experience at band 6 or 7 minimum of 5 years
- Experience in Cancer or cancer related fields of practice
- Advanced communications training or equivalent experience
- Strong skills in communication, team working and negotiation
Desirable criteria
- Project management/change experience
- Experience of complex case management in diagnostics, long term conditions/cancer
