Job overview

Training role for qualified physiologists to be introdcued to echocardiography and develop skills toward independent scanning and reporting to BSE accrediation standards.

In conjunction with and supported by the Designated Training Officer, the Trainee Echocardiographer will be responsible for their own progression through the training programme, completing a mixture of theory and practical sessions to help them prepare for and completing the BSE Transthoracic Accreditation process.

A major part of the training and development will take place within a specified host NHS organisation and is integrally linked to the knowledge and applied learning that forms part of the nationally recognised BSE accreditation programme. Post holders will also be expected to undertake mandatory training as deemed necessary by their host NHS Organisation.

Main duties of the job

The trainee will  learn how to perform and interpret clinical, and specialist scientific processes underpinned by theoretical and applied knowledge and practical experience and will learn how to:

• Perform and interpret routine cardiac investigations.

• Perform specialised diagnostics investigations.

• Carry out complex scientific and clinical roles, including those working directly with patients.

• Analyse and interpret and data compare investigative and clinical options.

• Make judgements, including clinical and differential judgements, involving complicated facts or situations that impact on patients.

• Initiate and undertake innovation, improvement and R&D and be involved in the education of healthcare science trainees and other learners in the workplace.

The post holder will be expected to complete all work-based training and assessment alongside the academic course to exit the programme with eligibility for registration with the BSE and the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS)

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is looking to expand the workforce in good time for the opening of 3 purpose built Community Diagnostic Centres in the coming years. We are looking for individuals keen to specialise in echocardiography through completing the BSE recognised; Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Echocardiography; this will be fully funded by the Trust.

We have a very busy diagnostic service in Cardiology and Echo sub-speciality plays a major part in achieving Trusts values of ‘Excellent, Compassionate and Respectful’. To achieve our echo wait time standard consistently and to provide equitable direct access to GPs in local communities, we are looking to recruit a number of Specialist Cardiac Physiologists as part of our community diagnostic centres project. Our vision is to ensure that, a consistently high-quality service is delivered to our patients locally to enhance patient experience through reduced wait times and commute.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A 1st or 2:1 in Cardiac Physiology (PTP) or a relevant scientific subject
  • As evidenced for example by appropriate voluntary registration with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists or Academy for Healthcare Science.
