Neonatal Charge Nurse
Band 6
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.
Job overview
We are recruiting for an Neonatal Charge Nurse to work in liaison with the Ward Manager and other Charge Nurses.
You will lead and co-ordinate a dedicated team of nursing and support staff in the delivery of a high standard of nursing care. In the absence of the Ward Manager you will be responsible for the effective deployment of ward/department resources including manpower.
Adhere to NMC Code of Practice at all times and ensure ward compliance with and application of hospital policies and procedures. Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of Governance systems in the ward/department relating to Risk Management, Health and Safety and Controls Assurance.
Main duties of the job
- To monitor the practice and effectiveness of nursing actions, ensuring these are carried out with full regard for the safety of the patient and staff involved.
- To ensure that delegation of tasks is performed equitably, effectively, in accordance with the nurse’s individual skills, development needs and within clear parameters of responsibility.
- To ensure effective communication within the team and externally throughout the 24 hour period.
- To ensure feedback mechanisms are in place, directing and encouraging as appropriate.
- To provide specialist nursing advice or nursing practice within the ward/department, and provide advice to other wards/departments within the Trust.
- To evaluate the effects of nursing actions and plan improvements for the benefit of the service.
- To identify opportunities for improvement in services and where appropriate implement change process.
- To support the practice of family centered care and enhance parental / carer’s participation in care.
