Charge Nurse - Eastwood Ward
Band 6
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.
Job overview
We are excited to recruit a new post of Charge Nurse on our friendly Eastwood Ward.
We are looking for someone who will:
- To ensure the smooth running of the ward on a day-to-day basis ensuring that a high level of patient care is prioritised.
- To work as part of the multidisciplinary team ensuring the delivery of a high standard of care to the patients.
- To act as team leader taking charge of the ward, allocating and supporting staff.
- To participate in all relevant aspects of the Governance process.
- The post holder will always adhere to the NMC code of Professional Conduct and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
- To always act as a positive role model.

Main duties of the job
Within this role, you will be expected:
- To always maintain a professional demeanor in line with the Trust Policy for Uniform and the NMC Code.
- Take charge of the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager.
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritise care delivery within the ward setting, acknowledging the impact of the decision on other departments. When taking charge of the ward ensure the ward team act within current Trust Policies and Guidelines. In-conjunction with the Ward Manager ensure the ward team are aware of personal responsibilities regarding risk management procedures e.g., fire, health, and safety.
- Demonstrate a positive departmental image by showing a professional and helpful approach to all internal and external contacts.
- Ensure the use of information technology is in accordance with Trust Policies and procedures. To participate in the process of complaint management.
- To ensure that data quality / record keeping meets the requirements of the Trust.
- Utilise pay and non-pay resources, recording and reporting deficiencies to the Ward Manager as appropriate.
- Supervise the work of the ward team, delegating tasks according to team member’s skills and development needs.
- Positively contribute to the annual appraisal system and the development of Personal Development Plans for the ward team.
- To undertake specific responsibilities as allocated by the ward manager e.g. staff rostering.
