Job overview

We are looking to welcome a motivated and positive new Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to our team on  Princess Anne Ward

Princess Anne  Ward is a 33-bedded ward specialising in elective and emergency surgery.

We work closely with a range of multidisciplinary teams and work as advocates to ensure our patients have the best plan of care to ensure they have a positive journey throughout their hospital stay.

It is a demanding ward with acute patients, transferred from SAU/A&E/HDU/ITU and post op but we work closely as a team and deal with the day to day pressures with positivity and high levels of energy.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be a motivated team orientated professional with a passion for delivering high standards of nursing care in an ever changing environment and work within a multi professional team; it is essential you communicate effectively within this environment and act in line with the wards philosophy.

You will have previous experience in a Senior Staff Nurse post or previous deputy ward manager experience.

You be will be required to manage the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager and be able to communicate effectively to all levels. Key elements include; strong professional leadership qualities, which is critical to delivering the high standard of care our trust requires, passion to be able to motivate and increase staff morale and ability to change so to manage and encourage a learning environment.

Dealing with day to day issues that may arise such as staff sickness, roster management, mitigation, complaints, incidents, tendable audits, etc. You will also be expected to support the ward manager with governance issues, training and incident management.

  • RGN – proof of current registration
  • Degree Level Qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of recent, consistent professional study development, including dementia care, study and leadership

Experience

  • Significant post registration experience
  • Demonstrable report writing experience
  • Significant medical acute care experience and working with adults with mental health needs
