Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

 

Job overview

To support our ambition to increase opportunities for patients to take part in research studies, we are seeking two individuals who have a strong track record in research delivery operational management.

One position will be based at Basildon Hospital and the other at Southend Hospital.

You need to be self-motivated individual with strong analytical, time management and problem-solving skills and the ability to think laterally.

Strong leadership qualities are crucial for this position. The Research Site Manager must inspire and motivate a multidisciplinary team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

You should possess excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with research study teams and colleagues across the Trust, as well as external study Sponsors. The post holder should be adaptable, and solution focused, with a positive and flexible approach to the needs of the department.

Provide a sustainable and suitable environment in which research participants can safely participate in ethically approved research studies.

Ensure that the needs and safety of the research study participant are placed at the centre of research delivery.

Identify areas for service development and participate in the development of policies, procedures and guidelines to support changes in practice, leading on areas of expertise.

Main duties of the job

Be responsible for the planning, staffing and day-to-day operational management of the research infrastructure at either the Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC) at Basildon Hospital or the research clinic and dedicated research in-patient beds at Southend Hospital. This includes ensuring the most efficient use is made of the available resources, and maximising opportunities for income generation.

You will oversee the conduct of clinical research studies undertaken within the research centre /site, providing expert operational advice and guidance, to ensure that all projects are conducted according to the highest ethical and Good Clinical Practice principles, and in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory standards. Ensure the site is run to professional standards, promoting its position as a centre of excellence in the delivery of clinical research across a diverse number of therapeutic settings.

You will develop strong working relationships with colleagues across the site and wider Trust, as well as external partners in the NHS, academia and the life sciences industry.

Communicate complex information to a range of people in a wide variety of situations using negotiating and influencing skills as required.

Carry out reviews of potential new studies, together with the Research Team Leads and Approvals Managers, to determine feasibility, scientific interest and cost effectiveness
