Band 3 Therapy Assistant Advert

We are currently looking for a Therapy Assistant to join our multidisciplinary physical health team, which provides a service to patients living in the West Essex area.

This position is community based within the Scheduled Care team where you will be supporting the Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy team in providing treatment to a wide variety of patients, helping to provide rehabilitation to patients in their own home as well as assisting patients to maximise their functional ability.

You will be responsible for implementing a range of treatment plans and assessments, under supervision, which support patients to increase independence and improve their quality of life.

It is essential that you possess a current driving licence and have access to a car for work purposes.

Main duties of the job

To support the therapy team in the delivery of treatment to patients within Uttlesford working within the Integrated Team.

Treating patients in accordance with agreed guidelines and treatment regimes. This may be extended to assisting the community therapists during periods of staff shortage.

Responsibility will include assisting with the treatment of complex patients under the guidance of qualified therapists, undertaking treatment plans, supervising patients in their exercise programmes, maintenance of resources within the department and stock control, assistance with administrative tasks and assessment and provision of basic standard equipment, for example, rails, chair raises and toileting equipment.

The therapy team works within the Integrated Team so liaises closely with the District nurses and Community matrons as well as having links with the specialist nurses, dieticians and SALT. 

We try to support the individual to maximise their potential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·        To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to prevent admission, support early discharge and provide rehabilitation, advice and support to a wide range of patients groups. This may be delivered in the patients own home, care homes or clinics.

·        To deliver specific therapeutic input as part of goal directed treatment and rehabilitation programme as set by qualified members of staff

·        Follow up assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of delegated caseload and escalating changes to the Registered Practitioner

·        To actively work as a member of the multi-professional team to provide high quality care to patients/clients

·        To undertake, and report back on delegated clinical activities that have previously been signed competent

·        To undertake clinical interventions utilising a variety of modes, including planning and leading group and individual therapy and issuing appropriate equipment as part of packages of prescribed care after achieving appropriate competencies.

·        To be able to assess and adjust walking aids to fit the patient correctly and teach them to use and maintain them.

·        Supporting community teams with accessing patient information when out on visits

·        To maintain patient records using appropriate documentation for intervention carried out.

·        To enable and empower patients to develop self and environmental management skills.

·        To promote and facilitate access to community resources.

·        Enable individuals to sustain and improve their overall health and wellbeing.

·        Identify, act and minimise risk to patients and clients.

·        Exchange information with patients/clients requiring support, tact and reassurance.

·        Form professional relationships with staff/patients/clients/families and carers and communicate and cooperates with them in a way that respects their views, autonomy and culture.

·        Constructively manage barriers to effective communication and works collaboratively with patients and team members.

·        Work without direct supervision of the registered practitioner in the implementation of programmes/reviews appropriate to the community and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and feedback appropriately.

·        Prioritise own tasks / admin under the appropriate delegation of the registered practitioner, responding in an appropriate time frame

·        Liaise with other providers regarding care provision

·        To support qualified staff in completion of onward referrals

·        To ensure that resources are used effectively, planning workload to meet the priorities of patient/client care by the most efficient use of time, equipment and manpower and other resources.

·        To report all accidents and incidents to qualified staff, completing appropriate paperwork in line with the Trust policy.

  • Literate in IT/Computer Skills

Knowledge / Education

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of general education and intelligence. Educated to GSCE/NVQ level 3 equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience dealing with client group / therapy
  • Care Certificate

Driving license
