Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and dynamic dietitian to join our team at Southend Hospital to provide a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient specialist gastroenterology service to patients requiring dietary support.
In this role you will be the dietetic clinical lead for gastroenterology and have the chance to review and develop the dietetic service in accordance with the service needs and national guidance.
You will work closely with the gastroenterology consultants, clinical nurse specialists, pharmacists, other gastroenterology dietitians across the Trust to help streamline services, as well as other members of the wider MDT. Excellent communication skills and team working are essential to the role.
Please note this post is a 12 month Fixed Term/ Secondment opportunity
Main duties of the job
You will join our team of 16 dietitians, 1 dietetic assistant and 2 admin support staff to provide a dietetic service for patients with gastroenterology related issues.
Your role will include:
· Cover to the gastroenterology ward, in conjunction with the band 6 gastroenterology dietitian.
· The provision of a specialist gastroenterology clinic and exclusive enteral nutrition clinic for outpatients
· Specialist dietetic responsibility at an advanced level for patients with gastroenterology problems.
· Promoting dietetics and the role of the dietitian in gastroenterology.
· Service review and development.

· Dietetic provision of gastroenterology related outpatient clinics
- To perform advanced dietetic assessments of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions
- To develop and deliver an individualised treatment plan, whilst maintaining accurate patient records
· Management of junior dietetic team members including the supervision and leadership of a band 6 dietitian.
· Training of student dietitians.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent in dietetics
- Evidence of recent and relevant CPD
- HCPC registration
- Evidence of MDT working
- Experience supervising & mentoring junior members of staff
Desirable criteria
- Member of the BDA
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Specialist knowledge in nutrition support and parenteral nutrition
- Experience teaching dietitians and other health professionals
Desirable criteria
- Experience managing patients with intestinal failure
