Job overview

Here is an exciting opportunity for your to join our friendly Pharmacy team as a Pharmacy ePMA Clinical Technician to support the Nova Programme at Mid and South Essex NHS Trust (MSEFT). 

You will be  responsible for the ongoing management of Pharmacy IT Systems including electronic prescribing (ePMA). Through the application of these systems and software assures the smooth running of all pharmacy IT systems. You will also be responsible for supplier liaison, system configuration, testing and workflow changes for all pharmacy IT systems including ePMA.  

You will be responsible for development, maintenance and delivery of training for all pharmacy IT systems.

Main duties of the job

  • Be a key member of the Pharmacy IT team, contributing as necessary to ensure all tasks are completed to deadline and report progress on the areas for which the post holder is responsible
  • Manage the operation and technical competency of ePMA and all IT systems and equipment in Pharmacy, all software driving other machines, and all peripherals outside of Pharmacy which draw on Pharmacy software.
  • Identify and manage risks associated with the use of ePMA and establish and maintain appropriate Trust wide reporting mechanisms.
  • Maintain and develop the core standing drug dictionary used to underpin the ePMA system which is used by prescribers to initiate medication and associated doses for patients.
  • Monitor service delivery of ePMA and work closely to ensure that a safe and effective service is provided, within the allocated resources, and in line with benchmarks of best practice and national standards.
  • Working with the Trust Healthcare analytics team develop and maintain dashboards, reports and webpages which use data extracted from the ePMA system.
  • Diagnoses the cause of faults in Pharmacy IT systems and tests, develops and implements solutions with the support of the Trust IT department.
  • To develop rigorous local test plans and undertake acceptance testing on new software releases.
  • Manage upgrades to pharmacy IT systems and ePMA ensuring that contingency plans are in place to minimise disruption to services.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration hospital pharmacy experience
  • Knowledge of a range of pharmaceutical, Management, IT and or purchasing procedures gained through training and experience
  • Management experience
  • In depth working knowledge of Pharmacy based IT systems
Desirable criteria
  • Proficient in the use of the WellSky Pharmacy Stock Control and Dispensing computer system
  • Experience of electronic prescribing systems
  • Experience of implementing and managing change
