Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

 

Job overview

This is a fabulous opportunity for a Senior Radiographer with Mammography experience to take the next step in your career.

The service includes the Screening & Symptomatic Service based at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with three mobile vans covering the South Essex area. We screen around 25,000 women per year. 

We run three recently refurbished in Mammography rooms with tomosynthesis capacity and 2 Ultrasound rooms , with dedicated waiting areas for screening and symptomatic. 

We have 3 mobile screening units operating across South Essex and recently installed remote digital transfer systems from our vans to the base site. 

This is an exciting time to join the team as we introduce Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography, alongside our current research audits and training programs.

We support ongoing leadership development and developing advanced practitioners, the service has supported the national breast fellowship program and have managed to recruit several graduates to support their ongoing career development.

If you are an experienced Radiographer you may be considered for a Trainee post at Band 5 with onward progression to Band 6 upon qualification.

Southend is also located close to two mainlines into London and an International airport, along with the longest pleasure pier in the UK.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide the full mammographic service for the symptomatic service.

    To provide information to the clients attending screening.

    To recognise when there is a need to call for professional help (breakdowns etc.).

    To be the Supervising Radiographer for Assistant Practitioner staff members.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) Radiography/Diploma of The College of Radiographers or equivalent.
  • Certificate of Competence in mammography/Post Graduate Certificate in Mammographic Practice.
  • HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • PGDip Mammographic imaging or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of extensive experience in radiographic techniques for biopsies including stereotactic procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of IR(ME)R demonstrated in previous experience or supporting information
  • Evidence of well-developed knowledge of NHSBSP, Cancer Services and Breast Care
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of breast interventional experience
  • Evidence of film reading Experience
  • Evidence of advanced Interventional Mammography skills
