Speech & Language Therapist - Rotational Adult Acute Wards / Stroke
Band 6
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.
Job overview
We are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity of two Band 6 rotational acute Speech and Language Therapists to join our team on fixed term contracts. The posts will rotate with other Band 6 posts across the acute wards (including respiratory, oncology and CCU/HDU) and the stroke wards.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Band 5 therapists or band 6 therapists looking for a change to develop specialist skills within acute stroke and /or acute generalist wards for acquired swallowing and communication disorders.
If you have been a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist for at least 12 months and are an independent practitioner in dysphagia we want to hear from you!
Main duties of the job
The posts require specialist skills in the management of patients with acquired communication disorders and/or dysphagia on the stroke unit or general acute wards. The successful candidate would be required to have experience in working with a wide range of patient types and/or have completed RCSLT Level C dysphagia competencies or equivalent dysphagia training to support the assessment of patients in an inpatient setting.
The successful candidate will be developed to acquire the skills to lead videofluorscopy clinics and will have the opportunity to participate in FEES clinics. The SALT department has an excellent profile within the hospital and strong links to our main referring consultants, and other professionals. We foster effective MDT working and are an active member of the therapies department.
Working for our organisation
Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.
We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust
