Senior Clinical Fellow (ST5+)

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

Job overview

This advert is for two fellowship posts in Urology at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, based at Southend Hospital:

• 1 x Clinical Fellow in Core Urology
• 1 x Senior Urology Pelvic Fellows with exposure to robotic and open surgery

Clinical activities are based at Southend Hospital, the designated Urology Cancer Centre for the Mid and South Essex (MSE) network.

The posts are open to candidates at ST5+ level and are suitable for those who have completed, or are in the final stages of, specialist training in urology. The Senior Urology Pelvic Fellow posts are ideally suited to candidates who have recently obtained, or are approaching, CCT and FRCS (Urol), although applications from suitably experienced senior trainees are also welcomed.

These fellowships provide focused subspecialty development in pelvic oncology, robotic surgery and advanced urological procedures, with opportunities to enhance operative experience, clinical decision-making, research involvement and clinical governance skills.

Southend is the regional Urology Cancer Centre for the MSE and extended Colchester networks, serving a population of over 1.4 million people. The pelvic oncology service delivers high-volume robotic and open surgery, performing more than 400 robotic radical prostatectomies and over 100 radical cystectomies annually, offering excellent exposure to complex pelvic oncological surgery within a supportive training environment.

Main duties of the job

Clinics
The post holder will support new and follow-up urology clinics, including diagnostic, cancer and 2WW/USC pathways. Senior Urology Pelvic Fellows will have additional exposure to specialist pelvic oncology clinics and the management of patients undergoing robotic and open surgery for prostate and bladder cancer.

Theatres
Clinical Fellow in Core Urology: Participation in a broad range of general urology operating lists, including endourology, emergency urology, diagnostic procedures, benign surgery and general urological procedures. Opportunities for exposure to robotic and pelvic oncology surgery may be available.

Senior Urology Pelvic Fellow: Attached to the pelvic oncology service with extensive exposure to robotic and open pelvic surgery, including robotic radical prostatectomy, radical cystectomy, pelvic oncology and reconstructive procedures. Training will be provided at both the bedside and robotic console. The unit performs over 400 robotic radical prostatectomies and more than 100 radical cystectomies annually.

Ward Duties
Participation in ward rounds, peri-operative care and inpatient management with consultant support.

Academic/Research
Involvement in research, audit, quality improvement projects and teaching is encouraged. Opportunities exist for collaborative research through the Trust's links with Anglia Ruskin University.
