Job overview

Our Ophthalmology Department at Mid & South Essex Hospital Group (MSE) has a fantastic opportunity for a Paediatric and Strabismus Clinical Fellow to join it's specialised friendly team.

You would be required to commence as soon as possible, should be fully trained in General Ophthalmology and have a postgraduate Ophthalmic qualification (FRCOphth or equivalent) for this 1-year Fixed Term post.

Our existing Ophthalmology services, led by 19 Consultants, provide a comprehensive range of services including Glaucoma, Cornea, VR, MR, Paediatrics and Oculoplastics supported by a range of specialist trainees, specialty doctors, fellows and allied health professionals.

With our links to Anglia Ruskin University we are able to provide you and our medical workforce with unique opportunities to participate in medical faculty academic activities in a rapidly developing academic environment and with the Trusts excellent Postgraduate Medical Centre which offers a full programme of events and access to our Medical Library.

Main duties of the job

Your role  will be to act as point of contact for Paediatric, Strabismus and Neuro-ophthalmology support to junior medical staff within the department, to perform and supervise cataract surgery, to coordinate and undertake acute paediatric and strabismus service, under the guidance of the Consultant Ophthalmologist and coordinate all administration related to Paediatric and Strabismus outpatient and inpatient treatment.

You will participate in all paediatric and strabismus clinics and theatre sessions and following the completion of the fellowship, you should be confident in performing microscope assisted small incision strabismus surgery independently and also be confident in managing routine and complex ocular motility problems.

Active research is strongly encouraged and you will be  given opportunities to publish in peer review journals and to present in national and international meetings
