You will provide a comprehensive administrative service to the Emergency Department (ED) and facilitate the smooth running of the patient journey and be required to monitor patient activity and flow within the department and work collaboratively with the shift coordinator and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Working in partnership with the ED Nurse in Charge and the Site Managers you will maintain up to date and accurate computer based records for patient flow, chase and escalate delays in the patients emergency pathway e.g. ensure diagnostic tests are ordered and carried out at an appropriate time to aid the clinical decision making including; discharge and admission.

Main duties of the job

Join our Emergency Department team and help ensure patients receive timely, safe and effective care. Working closely with the ED Shift Coordinator, you will support patient flow across the department, helping to deliver high-quality care and maintain professional standards.

You will coordinate patient movement through the ED, working with clinical teams to minimise delays and improve patient journeys. Key responsibilities include participating in board rounds, contributing to care planning, attending capacity meetings, and providing updates on departmental performance and flow.

The role involves liaising with portering teams to ensure timely imaging and patient transfers, managing telephone enquiries from patients, relatives and colleagues, and delivering professional, compassionate support. You will also validate breaches in real time and retrospectively to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with Trust policies.

Additional responsibilities include arranging patient transport, coordinating emergency transfers with ambulance services and other hospitals, and promptly reporting accidents and incidents to the Nurse in Charge to maintain a safe environment.
