Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Estates and Facilities Site Manager to join our team at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, based at Southend Hospital.

As the senior on-site lead for Estates and Facilities, you will be responsible for the effective delivery of all Hard and Soft FM services, ensuring our hospitals provide a safe, clean, and high-quality environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Working closely with the Senior Estates and Facilities team, you will lead large multi-disciplinary teams and manage a range of key services. You’ll ensure full compliance with statutory and NHS standards, drive continuous improvement, and support the Trust’s strategic objectives through strong leadership, planning, and performance management.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior Estates and Facilities professional to help shape and deliver a first-class services within one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country.

Main duties of the job

Lead and manage Hard and Soft FM services across the Southend site, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Act as the senior Estates and Facilities representative on site, providing expert advice and operational leadership.

Develop and implement operational strategies, annual work plans, and service improvements aligned with Trust priorities.

Manage large, multi-skilled teams and external contractors, promoting a culture of professionalism, accountability, and customer service.

Oversee service budgets, contracts, and cost improvement programmes, ensuring effective financial control and value for money.

Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, CQC, PLACE, PAM, and other statutory and NHS frameworks.

Build strong working relationships with senior leaders, clinicians, and external partners to support safe and effective patient care.

Provide on-call leadership as part of the Estates and Facilities rota, responding to urgent issues outside of normal working hours.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Degree or equivalent specialist knowledge and experience.
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent healthcare specialist experience
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant Engineering/technical qualification
  • Degree in Facilities Management

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate detailed knowledge of strategic management delivered at senior management level
  • Post qualification experience & track record of managing of Soft and Hard FM operational services.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in project management methodologies.
