Job overview

Here at MSE, we are committed to providing a supportive environment for the development of Occupational Therapists.  Our Southend Hospital department operates an integrated therapy service, where Occupational Therapists & Physiotherapists work alongside each other in a variety of the clinical areas. The culture of multi-disciplinary working is well established and respected within the hospital. 

We are currently looking for a dynamic Occupational Therapist to join our band 6  inpatient rotations initially working across the surgical and amputee service.  This position offers the opportunity to develop clinically and managerially in a fast paced environment working within our established Inpatient Therapy Team.

Our Inpatient Therapy Team is led by our Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist with the support of Band 7 Team Leaders who are highly experienced in their fields. We have regular Occupational therapy team meetings and actively encourage CPD.

In return we offer training and clinical development opportunities with a comprehensive in-service training program and regular clinical supervision.  We also provide additional support in order for staff to attend recognised courses within the area of the post to support staff development.  The Therapy Team is also committed to supporting the development of leadership skills at Band 6 encouraging staff to attend relevant courses provided by the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post is part of our Inpatient Team which offers the opportunity to work across a variety of inpatient areas including medical and frailty wards.

The role involves the rapid assessment and management of patients presenting to the hospital to facilitate safe discharge as soon as possible with the provision of any necessary  equipment and care recommendations.

You will demonstrate an ability to be flexible and thrive in a fast paced environment. You will be responsible for day to day management of the service delivery and manage a complex caseload with support from your band 7 team lead. You will gain experience in supervising staff and become an accredited practice placement educator.

This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to engage others, with a proactive approach to service development. You will also demonstrate a strong commitment to a person centred approach in line with the Trust Values and Behaviours.

Together with the team leaders in our in-patient specialities, you will by supported the Occupational Therapy Clinical Lead and the Therapies Manager in the strategic and operational planning for the department.
