Job overview
Medical Secretary- Breast Surgery, Band 3 (22.5 hours a week, 12 month fixed term contract)
The Breast Surgery Team at Thirlestaine Breast Centre are looking to welcome a motivated, organised, and efficient secretary into the Breast Surgery Team. You will be working closely with consultants and management to deliver surgical care for patient. We are a friendly team who are passionate about working collaboratively to deliver excellent patient care. While previous medical secretary experience is desirable, however not essential as upon joining the team, full training will be given.

Main duties of the job
Whilst the organisation and structure within specialities/divisions may vary the specific remit of this role will include:
Transcription - Typing correspondence.
Outcomes, Results and Clinics - Tracking of results/ appointments and highlighting to the clinical team members any results, correspondence or patient queries that need response and taking action e.g. booking investigations, transcription, etc, to ensure that RTT guidelines are achieved for patients.
Booking in patients for surgery, alongside the utilisation of theatre lists.
Providing a comprehensive secretarial support to the consultant.
Regularly informing the Lead Co-Ordinator about progress and flagging up as a matter of urgency any issues.
Liaising with external organisations for the benefit and progress of patient care, such as Social Services, other hospitals, etc.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE level minimum Grade C in Maths and English
- Experience of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Desirable criteria
- Medical Secretary Diploma or equivalent experience
- Experience of typing letters including medical terminology
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Clear communication with excellent writing, data entry and telephone communication skills. Capable of constructing and delivering clear information / instruction to a wide range of people
- Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
- Knowledge or an ability to understand clinical pathways in relation to RTT
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of NHS Systems
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven administrative experience, including initiating and maintaining office systems
- Experience of handling telephone enquiries
- Experience of planning and organizing administrative tasks
- Experience of managing own workload
