Job overview

The COTE services are led by Dr Helen Alexander as the COTE Clinical Lead.  COTE has 15 Consultants, many of whom have roles across a number of care of the Elderly and frailty services within the Trust.

The successful applicant would be part of a dedicated team providing in and out-patient services. We are an ambitious department and in addition to our core, established sub-specialty departments are actively developing new services focused particularly on frailty and development of the frailty SDEC and virtual ward.

Main duties of the job

We anticipate that the applicant for this post will have MRCP and working at ST3+ with geriatric medicine experience within the NHS, and an evidenced commitment to a career in geriatric medicine.  The objective of this post is to offer more focussed experience in frailty work and interface medicine on a Frailty Assessment Unit and Frailty Virtual Ward, with an opportunity to develop skills in a geriatric medicine subspecialty of particular interest to the candidate.  This would be suitable for a candidate looking for Out of Programme Experience or to develop their portfolio in preparation to becoming a Specialist Doctor or CESR.

 Educational supervision will be provided by a geriatrician.

We will encourage the completion of a quality improvement project and poster presentation or publication.

There is no on call commitment, but the successful candidate would join a 1in 7 weekend rota reviewing inpatients and working on the frailty unit.

Working for our organisation

Our Care of The Elderly Team consists of 13 geriatricians that work across Gloucester Royal Hospital, Cheltenham General Hospital, the seven Community Hospitals in Gloucestershire.  We also have geriatricians who are working with community frailty services, movement disorders clinics, falls and syncope clinics.   The Frailty Assessment Service is a multidisciplinary service assessing patients in ED and on the Frailty Assessment Unit, and also receives patients directly  from the community. The Frailty Virtual Ward is a technology enabled service that supports patients to receive hospital level care at home and is part of a wider Virtual Hospital.

We are a forward thinking department and one of the first to develop a geriatrician lead orthogeriatrics ward, we also have a peri-operative medicine service and keen to move forward with progressing our frailty service
