Join a dynamic and ambitious team, dedicated to delivering exceptional gynaecological oncology services. We are an acute Trust with two district general hospitals, providing secondary and tertiary gynaecological cancer services to a population of 1.4 million. The team,  primarily based at Cheltenham General, outpatient clinics are also held at Gloucestershire Royal, Worcester Royal and Hereford County Hospital.

 

As part of our established team of four Consultants, you will work alongside three subspecialty accredited Gynaecological Oncologists and one Consultant Gynaecologist who also serves as the Cancer and Colposcopy Lead. You will have the support of four highly experienced Consultants, as well as dedicated support staff, ensuring a collaborative, supportive working environment. 

 

With opportunities to travel and run an independent practice, you will be able to enhance your skills and expertise. Our location alongside urology and colorectal services at a site focused on elective care, means you will benefit from seamless DCC access.

 

 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The post-holder will be a subspecialty accredited Gynaecological Oncologist. The post-holder will provide specialist Gynaecological oncology services, including theatres, outpatient clinics, colposcopy and On-call together with appropriate teaching and supervision of resident doctors and medical students. 

Integral to the responsibilities of this post are the following objectives:

4  to ensure the delivery of a high-quality patient-centred clinical service

4  to provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in that same task

4  to sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate

4  to work in accordance with our trust’s procedures and operating policies

4  to support the business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Women and Children Division and our Trust

4  to work within the framework of team decisions

4  to take a whole systems approach to working with the wider health community both NHS and social services

4  to show initiative, enthusiasm and flexibility

While the team is primarily based at Cheltenham General, outpatient clinics are also held at Gloucestershire Royal, Worcester Royal, and Hereford County Hospital. The service is co-located with the oncology centre, elective colorectal surgery, urological surgical oncology, the robotics suite (X, XI, 3 consoles, SimNow), interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and elective intensive care.

 

Facilities include on-site frozen section services and PET scanning at an adjoining facility. There is no general surgical or gynaecological take based at CGH, allowing us to focus on our paradigm of maximal surgical effort cytoreductive surgery. These cases are routinely admitted to ICU for a minimum of 24 hours, with no cancellations due to bed capacity over the past four years.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCOG
  • Entry on Specialist Register (or entry within 6 months)
  • RCOG Subspecialty Accreditation in Gynaecological Oncology or equivalent

  • Qualification in healthcare management or leadership
  • ATSM in vulval disease
  • Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to specialty

Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience in interpreting national guidance and recommendations and translating this into local practice
