Job overview

Gloucestershire Oncology Centre has a progressive Radiotherapy department across two sites with state of the art machines delivering IMRT, Arcing and SABR techniques with adaptive therapy. We have a superficial unit and also deliver Brachytherapy.

This post is a full time, Band 6 Advanced practitioner in Radiotherapy, working as a split role across both the Hereford and Cheltenham sites.

The department is involved in numerous National research Trials and has research Radiographers. We also have Consultant Radiographers in both Breast and Prostate Cancer.

The department prides itself in a very high standard of patient care and also delivers a Late Effects Service to extend this care beyond initial treatment.

We are keen to develop our staff based on competency and encourage further education and we welcome well motivated, caring and conscientious individuals to our team. Applications welcome from staff qualified 18 months

 

Main duties of the job

Work as an operator, entitled under IRMER, to deliver and supervise a range of complex Radiotherapy procedures requiring precise positioning of patients and machinery, meeting professional and departmental standards.

Undertake the daily operation and organisation of the treatment machine. Responsible to act up in the absence of the Band 7 Team Lead, Enhanced Practitioner.

Carry out volumetric imaging, making decisions regarding treatment placement. Carry out palliative KV imaging on-set planning. Become a practitioner for concomitant exposures. Provide evidence-based advice regarding treatment related side effects. Administer medication under PGD guidelines.  Supervise and train junior staff and students. Carry out staff appraisals.

Update the department’s Quality Management System. Ensure that equipment is safe and accurate to operate, reporting faults and incidents. Undertake Category 1 cover for Bank Holidays.

  • HCPC registration

  • Evidence of post registration education

Experience

  • Experience of working in an advanced Radiotherapy centre
  • Experience of skills with IGRT
  • IT Competency

  • Use of specific department computerised patient system – ARIA
  • Use of hospital computerised patient system
  • Experience of Periods of acting up into advanced position
