Prostate Clinical Nurse Specialist, Band 6 (30 hours a week)
Join us in leading the way at Cheltenham General Hospital Urology Department, now located in a state-of-the-art facility featuring 10 clinic rooms. Here, collaboration is key, with Consultants, Administration and the Managerial team all working side by side.
We're looking for a Prostate Clinical Nurse Specialist to support patients through their initial assessment and diagnostic testing for Prostate Cancer as part of our RAPID service. Are you enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and ready to make a real difference? Patients on the RAPID Pathway have been referred by their GP for Prostate Cancer investigations, the nurse led RAPID service aims to see these patients and refer them for diagnostic testing with in 48 hours of initial referral.

Main duties of the job
- Assesses patients, with suspected prostate cancer
- Refer for Senior review where straight to test is not appropriate
- Share test results with patients and explain the next steps of investigation
- Ensure that appropriate diagnostic tests are booked in a timely manner
- Undertakes research activities and leads clinical audits in own specialist area.
- Communicates with a range other staff of all disciplines, acting as a highly specialist resource including liaison with health care providers both within and outside of the Trust regarding diagnosis and treatment advice.
Working for our organisation
The Urology Team is made of 13 Consultants, 8 Clinical Nurse Specialists and 2 Cancer Support Workers along with a specialist administrative team to support the patient journey and experience. Which has been enhanced by the move to a new Urology Department on Alstone Clinic.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and clinical experience
- Advanced Communications skills course
- Evidence of managing cancer patients complex needs
- Able to contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies/protocols/guidelines relevant to area of practice
- Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse
- Recognised Nursing Degree or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Level 7 Post Grad Diploma/Master's Degree within relevant speciality or commitment to work towards
- Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area
- Demonstrates ability to keep up to date with professional issues that influence clinical practice, management, education and research
