Job overview

Our Special Care/Paediatric Dental Service is looking for a  motivated Band B Senior Dental Officer to join its friendly and innovative team in the new Forest of Dean Community Hospital in Cinderford.

If you are looking for a rewarding senior clinical post in which you can develop your clinical and leadership skills, this could be the ideal opportunity for you.

Our award winning, dynamic dental team prides itself on providing outstanding specialised clinical care for children, young people and adults with additional needs, and seeks an enthusiastic and flexible team player to join them on a  part-time basis for three days a week.

This is an ideal opportunity for those seeking a role that provides interest, variety and supports further career development. Successful candidates will have experience of working in a special care/paediatric environment and a recognised ability to provide conscious sedation and treatment under general anaesthesia to the above patient groups.

Working in newly-refurbished and fully-equipped, multi-surgery clinics, you will be supported by the Specialist in Special Care Dentistry and other senior clinicians.

As a senior member of the Dental Leadership Team you will be actively involved in the development of the strategic vision of the service, as well as providing operational and line management to support the team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to provide comprehensive clinical care to adult and paediatric patients who meet the criteria to access special care dentistry.

These patients have needs that cannot be met in the General Dental Service. This would include providing treatment using different modalities such as inhalation sedation, IV and general anaesthesia.  Management of patients occurs in different settings including domiciliary and hospital locations.

The  post holder must be able to participate in the provision of care under general anaesthesia and care in domiciliary settings as part of the senior clinical team.

The post holder will be required to provide leadership, line management and support to a team of dental officers and dental therapists

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust offers an excellent range of benefits, including:

  • 6 weeks paid annual leave
  • NHS benefits (including pension)
  • Dedicated funding for CPD and postgraduate dental education.
  • Commitment to training – verifiable CPD and peer support
  • Clear job planning and annual appraisals
  • Consistent and highly-skilled dental therapist and dental nurse support

Working for our organisation

At Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, we are supportive of the people we care for in the community and aim to provide a fully responsive service to everyone who needs it. This is the same approach we take for our employees. We look to value the skills and experiences of those we work with, whether they are service users, carers, families or those looking to work with us.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is part of the NHS. We treat NHS patients according to NHS principles and standards. The difference is the Trust is accountable to local people, rather than to Government, and so we are able to work closely with our community to develop services in the way that best suits the needs of local people.

Our Staff Survey results showed people at our Trust feel they are engaged, part of a team and work for a compassionate and inclusive organisation.

Our overall scores were better than average in eight of nine themes and level in one - the best overall results for a community, mental health and learning disabilities Trust in the south west and first equal amongst all sector NHS providers within the region too.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
