We are looking for an  Band 5 Registered Nurse/ODP to join our friendly team at the Day Surgery Unit, Cirencester Treatment Centre working for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This vacancy is for a registered nurse or ODP who  has the relevant experience in anaesthetic nursing and would be willing to undertake the scrub nurse role in addition; the time spent in each role would be split 50/50. Cirencester Treatment Centre is situated within Cirencester Hospital and has one Day Surgery Theatre , a one bedded recovery area and a nurse led pre and post operative ward.

The Treatment Centre is open Monday to Friday from 07:30-19:00. Theatre sessions run from 09:00-17:00

We have a range of specialties including Orthopaedics, Vascular and Oral Surgery.

We have an active Practice Development Team based at the acute hospital sites who support the training and induction of new members of staff and their development thereafter.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

 In the anaesthetic role:

Provide assistance to the consultants during all surgical procedures whether under local/regional/sedation/general anaesthetic.
Assist in the positioning and preparation of a patient as directed by the surgical team and ensure that any specimens are correctly labelled and dispatched to the laboratory.

Prepare patients for clinical / operative procedures and provide immediate post-operative care.

Take charge of the clinical area in the absence of an advanced practitioner, ensuring the safety of patients, visitors and staff.
Participate fully as a team member, including working in all areas of the theatre suite, sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues, to promote a cohesive team and the achievement of team objectives.

Help to control cross infection by observing departmental policy regarding dress, the maintenance of a clean working environment,
When acting in the scrub role:

You will play a crucial role in assisting surgeons during surgical procedures within the parameters of the scrub nurse competencies ensuring a safe and sterile environment for patients and staff. Your expertise in surgical instrumentation, infection control, and patient care will be vital in delivering high quality healthcare services in our operating theatre
The successful candidate will also need to complete the Trust's scrub nurse competencies and have skills in dexterity and accuracy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• NMC level 1 Registered Nurse with current anaesthetic qualification or HCPC registered ODP

• IT skills e.g. Electronic Patient Systems

• Enhanced levels of dexterity and accuracy pertaining to clinical skills e.g. administration of intravenous injections, scrub nursing.

• Act as a resource for all staff disseminating clinical skills and knowledge.

• Demonstrate ability to assess patient condition and implement appropriate care, within the multidisciplinary team.

• To communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised.

• Ability to disseminate contentious and delicate information appropriately.

• To deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate.

• To administer medication and treatment within Procedure for the Ordering, Prescribing and Administration of Medication Guidelines.

• To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and professional code of conduct.

• To input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer based systems.

• Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records.

Experience

  • Have excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills including a good command and understanding of English, punctuation and grammar. Flexible Team Worker with the ability to work under instruction and minimal supervision

  • Able to recognise and manage effectively stress in self and others
