Night Receptionist, Band 2- Emergency Department (30 hours a week)
Are you enthusiastic, highly motivated and wanting to work for the NHS? If you are looking for a job where you will be kept busy and no day is the same, the Receptionist role could be for you.
This specific job role entails working nights, 30 hours week on a set shift pattern (11pm - 7am) which will include working unsocial hours, weekends and Bank Holidays. Unsocial hours worked attract an enhanced rate of pay. You must be able to have a flexible approach and be able to work extra shifts to ensure Reception has optimum Reception cover.
You will be part of a friendly team of approximately 25 Receptionists working in a busy Emergency Department working with a wider multi-disciplinary team. You will be working in a fast paced/ever changing environment.
Main duties of the job
To provide a comprehensive and efficient Reception service within the Emergency Department.
Register/book in patients, update patient records, make referrals to other departments, using the Trust's IT system.
Scanning of patient documentation.
Answer telephone enquiries.
Deal with enquiries at Reception that are not necessarily ED related.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Knowledge of TrakCare and other NHS systems - training provided
- Competence in IT skills including Outlook and Word
- Confidence in dealing with members of the public, all disciplines of hospital staff and other agencies.
- Excellent telephone and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and act quickly in an emergency situation
- Able to work under pressure, problem solve in a changing and challenging environment.
- Attention to detail, familiar with medical terminology.
- Able to prioritise, work autonomously using own initiative as well as working collaboratively as a team.
-Able to deal with the general public in a wide range of situations requiring diplomacy, tact and compassion.
- Able to deal with challenging behaviour in a tactful and calm manner.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Good general education with English and Maths to GCSE standard or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Educated to diploma level or NVQ 3, City & Guilds certificate level in Business Administration or equivalent
- Customer service qualification/training
Experience
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS experience and/or dealing with members of the public
- Experience in dealing with difficult service users and challenging behaviours
- Proven experience of working in a fast paced environment and responding to emergency situations
Knowledge / Skills
Essential criteria
- Competent IT skills
- Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills with ability to interact with a wide range of multidisciplinary staff, external agencies and members of the public
- Ability to work autonomously
- Meticulous in collecting /recording of data
- To be flexible with shifts and be able to pick up extra shifts to ensure optimum reception cover
