Whether you're looking to specialise in renal nutrition or are a Dietitian exploring a new specialty, this role offers the chance to deliver high-quality care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. You’ll work on the renal wards at Gloucestershire Hospitals, lead outpatient clinics, provide support at haemodialysis centres, and care for patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. Collaborate with specialist nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, and consultants to deliver holistic, patient-centred care.

This is an opportunity to join a supportive and friendly team of 7 consultants, specialist nurses, AHPs, and expert renal dietitians who are dedicated to delivering the highest standard of nutritional care for complex renal patients. We are supportive of career development, offering dietitians the opportunity to undertake the supplementary prescribing course. Engage in renal research, including the PHOSPHATE trial, contribute to service development and quality improvement projects.

The successful candidate will provide complex dietetic care to renal patients in a variety of settings. You will require excellent interpersonal skills including observation and active listening skills alongside excellent verbal communication skills.  You will work closely with the renal MDT, needing to work as part of a team and liaise with professionals at all levels. The successful candidate will need to be self-motivated and flexible to prioritise your own workload and be assertive in your time management.

The role provides opportunities to develop dietetic skills in a specialist area, working with a very experienced and dynamic team of renal dietitians. We encourage and support audit, research and contribution to service development within the dietetic department and the renal service. You would also be involved in supervising staff and students. Some travel may be required.

Providing acute hospital services from two large district general hospitals, as well as outpatient clinics and some surgery services from community hospitals throughout Gloucestershire. Our department is a large, friendly team operating across two sites, Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Our renal service is proud to serve approximately 250 haemodialysis patients across three centres (two in Gloucester and one in the Forest of Dean), 40 peritoneal dialysis patients, and nephrology clinics countywide.

 We are proud to include a diverse range of specialists, including our Home Enteral Feeding Team. At Gloucester, our department consists of Acute Dietitians, Paediatric Dietitians, and the Home Enteral Feeding Team, while at Cheltenham, we have a dedicated Oncology Dietitian team alongside the Acute team. Across both sites, we also feature a Nutrition Support Team, a Specialist Gastroenterology Team, and Specialist Diabetes Dietitians. Our multidisciplinary teams are made up of dietitians, support workers, dietetic assistants, and nurses, all working collaboratively to provide exceptional care. Located in Gloucestershire, our hospitals are set in a beautiful part of the country, surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty. Gloucestershire offers both a great place to live and work!

You will be directly responsible to the GRH Dietetic Service Lead, working alongside the renal team leads and the rest of the renal dietetic team.

You will be working to plan, implement and monitor high quality nutritional care to patients with complex renal needs in the inpatient and outpatient settings, including dialysis units.  

You will be actively involved in the supervision, education and development of designated Band 5 staff and also contribute to the training of A, B & C students each year. Please see the job description and person specification for more details.
