Join our Dietetics Team at Gloucestershire Hospitals Trust

Are you a newly qualified dietitian seeking a supportive, progressive environment? Or an experienced clinician wanting to develop your skills in a forward-thinking department?

We’re looking for a dietitian passionate about delivering nutritional care to join our friendly, collaborative Dietetic team at Gloucestershire Hospitals Trust. You’ll work independently and within multidisciplinary teams, supported by Dietetic colleagues, and have excellent interpersonal skills.

Your role will include managing a varied core caseload of medical patients, with opportunities to gain experience in Critical Care, Cancer Services, Gastroenterology, Diabetes, Renal, Paediatrics, Stroke and Neurology, Home enteral feeding and Parenteral Nutrition.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

We are seeking a motivated and skilled dietitian with experience in all aspects of adult nutrition support, including oral nutritional and enteral nutrition support. Previous NHS experience in this area is essential.

You will work autonomously, supported by specialist dietitians and a mentor to develop your skills. You will be responsible for delivering, planning and monitoring high quality, patient centred, nutritional care and education to patients with complex nutrition support needs.  This will involve prioritising a dynamic workload and demonstrating flexibility. This care will be delivered to in and outpatients, and you will be engaging and collaborating with dietetic colleagues and relevant multidisciplinary teams. 

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, including observation, active listening, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and compassionately

We are a large, friendly department based on 2 sites: Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) & Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH). There is free bus travel between these sites for Trust staff.

The Department of Dietetics is a dynamic and forward-thinking department operating across both hospital sites, structured into three key portfolios. These include Nutrition and Dietetics, encompassing acute services, renal, oncology, nutrition support, education, and the adult diabetes service; the Home Enteral Feeding Service, providing comprehensive care for adult and paediatric patients requiring enteral feeding across the county; and the Specialist Weight Management Service, delivering a specialist Tier 3 weight management programme.

The Department has an ambitious and evolving vision, striving to become a recognised centre of excellence for dietetics both regionally and nationally. Staff are actively encouraged and supported to engage in service evaluation, research, innovation, and teaching, ensuring continuous development and the highest standards of patient care

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • Degree/Diploma in Dietetics
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening, caring and empathy skills and can relate well to staff and patients.
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills including active listening skills.
  • Ability to assess individuals with complex medical problems and to plan their dietetic care
  • Ability to demonstrate Trust required behaviours in working towards Individual, Department, Divisional and Trust Objectives/Goals.
  • Ability to deliver education sessions to patients, colleagues, students and healthcare staff
  • The ability to react in a flexible way to support changing demands in service delivery, and providing cover as required at band 5 level to dietetic specialist areas
  • The ability to manage change and conflict to ensure resolutions with positive outcomes.
  • Evidence of CPD, including evidence of reflective practice and utilisation of best practice.
  • Excellent computer literacy skills: email, data input, internet, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Ability to work outside normal working hours, including occasional evenings if the service requires.
  • Knowledge of research, audit and service evaluation methodologies
  • Able to travel to other hospital sites and community locations.
  • Evidence of successful clinical experience in NHS being autonomous practitioner and able to act on own initiative
  • Able to apply knowledge across a range of clinical dietetic areas in acute hospital settings.
  • Experience within the NHS in adult oral nutrition and enteral nutrition support
  • Experience of effectively maintain working relationship within a team
  • Ability to recognise own professional limitations and when to seek advice from senior colleagues
  • Can cope with working across sites in a busy and changing environment with ability to remain calm & in control during busy phases
  • Desire to deliver a high-quality service.
  • An ability to interact with people experiencing psychological or physical health problems and / or disabilities
  • Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals
  • Self-motivated.
  • Professional attitude to routine/non-routine tasks.
  • To maintain Professional appearance and behaviours in the workplace
