Join our team and make a difference to patients living with kidney disease. The Department of Dietetics is a supportive, forward-thinking service committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred nutritional care across specialist clinical areas. We are looking for a motivated Dietitian to join our Renal Nutrition and Dietetic Service. Whether you are an experienced practitioner seeking to specialise in renal nutrition or keen to develop expertise in a new area, this role offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth. The Renal Nutrition and Dietetic Service works closely with consultants, specialist nurses, pharmacists, a renal psychologist and dialysis teams to support patients with complex kidney disease across inpatient, outpatient and dialysis settings. You will provide specialist dietetic care on renal wards, in outpatient clinics and across haemodialysis, home haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis services. The role offers opportunities to develop expertise in electrolyte management, phosphate control and renal nutrition support.You will join a friendly team committed to delivering outstanding care. We support professional development through service improvement projects, research opportunities, including involvement in the PHOSPHATE trial, and training opportunities such as supplementary prescribing. Opportunities for broader clinical experience may also be available in line with service needs and development goals.

 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide complex dietetic care to renal patients in a variety of settings. You will require excellent interpersonal skills including observation and active listening skills alongside excellent verbal communication skills. You will work closely with the renal MDT, needing to work as part of a team and liaise with professionals at all levels. The successful candidate will need to be self-motivated and flexible to prioritise your own workload and be assertive in your time management.

The role provides opportunities to develop dietetic skills in a specialist area, working with a very experienced and dynamic team of renal dietitians. We encourage and support audit, research and contribution to service development within the dietetic department and the renal service. You would also be involved in supervising staff and students. Some travel may be required.

The Department of Dietetics is a dynamic and forward-thinking department operating across both hospital sites, structured into three key portfolios. These include Nutrition and Dietetics, encompassing acute services, renal, oncology, nutrition support, education, and the adult diabetes service; the Home Enteral Feeding Service, providing comprehensive care for adult and paediatric patients requiring enteral feeding across the county; Our multidisciplinary teams are made up of dietitians, support workers, dietetic assistants, and nurses, all working collaboratively to provide exceptional care. Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate NHS experience
  • HCPC registered
  • Degree in Dietetics

  • Attendance on relevant accredited courses

  • Training and /or demonstrated experience in Leadership and Development
  • Demonstrate specialist clinical knowledge in renal dietetics
  • Demonstrate specialist clinical knowledge in decision making all types of enteral/ parenteral feeding
  • Demonstrate experience of involvement in service development
  • Demonstrate contribution to treatment pathways and outcomes that have resulted in improvements
  • Develop and deliver training materials to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible
  • Experience of effective working relationship within a team/ teams
