Paediatric Specialist Dietitian, Band 6 (1 WTE)

Are you interested in joining a friendly and dynamic paediatric dietetic team?

We are looking for a paediatric dietitian to help us provide an inpatient and  outpatient services to infants and children throughout Gloucestershire. Your caseload will be varied and will likely require 2 days per week working within the new weight management service (GLOW).

This service is based in the community and will be a mix of outpatient clinics and home visits. You will help support our outpatient services which provide support for faltering growth, food allergy and restrictive diets (based at GRH and CGH). We are also an integral part of the diabetes, cystic fibrosis, coeliac disease, weight management and feeding clinic MDT’s. We have an excellent reputation within and outside the trust, our diabetes service is award winning and we have exciting plans to expand our paediatric service in the future.

The paediatric department currently consists of a team of 6 Dietitians who are based at Gloucester Royal hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have a varied and challenging caseload requiring excellent interpersonal skills including observation, active listening and excellent verbal communication skills. You will need to work as part of a team and liaise with professionals at all levels, be able to prioritise your workload, be flexible and assertive.

Working for our organisation

We are a large friendly department based on 2 sites; Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) & Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH).

Within the department at GRH we have a team of adult Renal Dietitians, Acute Dietitians plus a separately funded Home Enteral Feed Team (HEFT). At CGH we have a team of Oncology Dietitians plus the Acute team. We also have a Nutrition Team, a Specialist Gastroenterology Team and Specialist Diabetes dietitians working on both hospital sites.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in Dietetics
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of successful clinical experience in NHS being autonomous practitioner and able to act on own initiative
  • Able to demonstrate an expertise within a wide range of clinical dietetics in acute hospital
  • Experienced within the NHS on all aspects of nutrition support, sip feeds and enteral feeds
  • Confident in enteral feeding in paediatrics – nasogastric and PEGs
  • Experience of effectively maintain working relationship within a team
  • Experience of nutrition screening tools and nutrition risk scoring
  • Experience in implementing clinical governance
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening, caring and empathy skills and can relate well to staff and patients.
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills including active listening skills.
  • Ability to assess individuals with complex medical problems and to plan their dietetic care
  • Ability to make decision regarding change of practice based on clinical evidence and to disseminate same to other health professionals.
  • Able to implement research evidence-based practice and apply to practice for continuous service improvement
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • To demonstrate Trust required behaviours in working towards Individual, Department, Divisional and Trust Objectives/Goals.
  • Ability to deliver education sessions to patients, colleague and healthcare staff
  • Prioritisation, planning and organisational and time management skills with ability to meet deadlines
  • The ability to manage change and conflict to ensure resolutions with positive outcomes.
  • Ability to work outside normal working hours, including evenings and weekends if the service requires.
  • To maintain Professional appearance and behaviours whilst working for Trust
  • Have a valid UK driving licence and own a car
