We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, patient focused clinical pharmacist to help lead our clinical pharmacy service within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a key leadership role so you will influence clinical outcomes and operational direction. You’ll join a supportive and friendly pharmacy team, committed to continuous learning and collaboration.
This pivotal role focuses on ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines within the Medical Division. As specialist lead, you will:
· Organise, plan and deliver high-quality clinical pharmacy services across the Medical Division
· Provide expert pharmaceutical care and advice to the Medical Division, in particular the acute medical unit, improving patient safety and patient flow.
· Lead the medicines optimisation agenda, guiding safe and cost-effective prescribing practices.
· Manage and support a team of clinical pharmacists and medicines optimisation technicians while carrying out a clinical pharmacy service to the acute medical unit, and other wards.
· Drive clinical excellence through education and training of pharmacy colleagues, students, and the wider Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT)
· Provide general pharmacist duties within the department and to other clinical specialities as the service requires. Participation in pharmacy department late night, weekend and bank holiday rotas is required.

Knowledge, skills and experience
· Four year Vocational Masters degree (or bachelor degree and equivalent skills gained through experience) with one year’s postgraduate competency assessment with examination to enter the register or BPharm or BSc and equivalent skills.
· Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
· Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent skills gained through substantial hospital pharmacy experience.
· Provide evidence of Continuing Professional Development to comply with GPhC requirements.
· Substantial experience of hospital pharmacy (including considerable experience as a clinical pharmacist)
· Foundation level in management training or equivalent skills gained through substantial hospital pharmacy experience.
· Undertake further study and attend local and national courses and study days as identified at Individual Performance and Development Reviews.
· Knowledge of current therapeutics within area of clinical responsibility.
· Able to work alone and unsupervised.
· Ability to organise and prioritise own workload including dealing with frequent interruptions.
· Effective oral and written communication with colleagues, staff and patients.
· Ability to write reports and make presentations to a range of colleagues in various settings.
· Intermediate competence in standard range of IT programs.

- Active registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council GPhC
- United Kingdom recognised Degree in Pharmacy
- Completed Post Graduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or equivalent UK Hospital experience
- Foundation level in management training or equivalent skills gained through substantial hospital pharmacy experience
- Completed Post Graduate certificate in Non-Medical Prescribing
- Self-motivated, able to use initiative & prioritise workload as well as work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Able to produce a range of written documents, including drug usage reports, SOPs, policies and guidelines
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to challenge inappropriate prescribing and influence prescribing decisions of all healthcare professionals including senior medical colleagues.
- Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk & promote safety
- Be proficient in IT and applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Sunrise EPR and EMIS
- Adaptable to the changing needs of the service including flexible working patterns (e.g. weekend working and working at both sites)
- Significant clinical experience working in a UK hospital at band 7 level or above, covering a wide range of clinical specialties including acute admission areas
- Experience delivering and developing a clinical pharmacy service
