Job overview
Pharmacy Assistant Technical Office- Patient Services (ATO), Band 2 (27.5 hours a week)
Under the supervision of a Section Manager or deputy, undertake general pharmaceutical duties to assist in delivering a safe and effective Pharmacy service in accordance with current policies, procedures, and legal requirements. Performing a wide range of tasks within the Pharmacy Department to support pharmacists and technicians in providing a comprehensive dispensing and distribution service. Main responsibilities include serving as a courteous first point of contact for patients and hospital staff, ensuring adherence to dispensary procedures, and contributing to the efficient operation of the dispensary. Additionally, to support the dispensary by filing paperwork, maintaining good housekeeping standards, and monitoring the Prescription Tracking System to inform senior dispensary technicians about prioritisation needs.
Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of the Senior Pharmacy Technician or deputy, the Pharmacy Assistant provides an efficient and safe dispensary and distribution service in line with Trust policies and legal standards.
Dispensary Duties: Act as the first point of contact for patients and staff, providing courteous service. Receive and process prescriptions and requests according to procedures, handling simple queries or escalating when required. Manage dispensary phones and emails, ensuring accurate data entry in WebTracker and EMIS. Highlight urgent prescriptions, liaise with ward and clinical teams on discharge progress, and coordinate with porters and volunteers for prompt delivery. Maintain dispensary cleanliness, replenish supplies, order labels and leaflets, and conduct stock checks.
Distribution Duties: Support the Stores and Distribution team by providing a top-up service to wards, ensuring stock levels, rotation, and expiry checks. Process and assemble ward orders, manage returned medicines for reuse or disposal, and maintain records.
General Duties: Follow all Standard Operating Procedures, Health and Safety, and security requirements. Organise and prioritise own workload, providing cover when necessary. Assist in training new staff, participate in audits and service reviews, and support continuous improvement. Provide weekend and bank holiday cover as required and uphold the Trust’s values in all duties.

- Entry Level qualification in principles of pharmacy practice (eg. Buttercups) or equivalent or willing to work towards qualification if required
