Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Operational Flow Lead Radiographer to join the Radiology service at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a pivotal operational role, working at the heart of Radiology to coordinate and optimise patient flow across emergency, inpatient, elective and cancer pathways. The post holder will play a key role in ensuring imaging capacity is aligned to demand, supporting safe, timely and efficient diagnostic services across the Trust.

Main duties of the job
The Operational Flow Lead will provide senior day‑to‑day operational leadership for Radiology patient flow, acting as a central point of coordination and escalation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating real‑time patient flow across Radiology services and sites
- Monitoring demand, capacity and utilisation to support timely imaging delivery
- Supporting ED, inpatient, elective and cancer pathways by prioritising imaging appropriately
- Acting as an escalation lead during periods of operational pressure
- Working closely with modality leads, booking teams, inpatient navigators and clinical colleagues
- Using operational data to identify bottlenecks and support service improvement
- Contributing to operational planning, pathway redesign and transformation initiatives
The role requires strong decision‑making skills, excellent communication and the ability to work calmly and effectively in a fast‑paced environment.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced operational leader with:
- HCPC registered Diagnostic Radiographer
- Significant experience in an NHS or healthcare operational role
- Experience managing patient flow, demand and capacity, or service pressures
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills
- The ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
- A strong commitment to patient‑centred care, quality and continuous improvement

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc Diagnostic Radiography Degree or equivalent
- HCPC registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Leadership or management qualification
- Quality or service improvement training
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of patient flow and operational pressures in acute healthcare
- Ability to analyse operational data and translate into action
- Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Radiology workflows and imaging pathways
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience in an operational NHS or healthcare role
