Lead Professional Nurse or Midwifery Advocate, Band 7 (18.75 hours a week)
This is an exciting opportunity for either a Professional Midwifery or Professional Nurse Advocate to lead on the delivery, strategy and planning of the Professional Advocate role across the Women & Children’s Division which covers Midwifery, Neonatal, Gynaecology and Children’s services. It provides the post holder the opportunity to enhance and support the wellbeing of our staff with the aim to support and improve retention, job satisfaction and unit culture, but also have an impact on clinical outcomes and patient safety.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the continuous improvement process of the “A-EQUIP” model across the Midwifery and Nursing services to ensure it becomes an intrinsic part of everyone’s job, every day in all parts of the system (NHS England 2016).
You should be a visible role model with the ability to develop, deliver, and embed Restorative Clinical Supervision (RCS) in collaboration with other Professional Midwifery/Nursing Advocates and clinical teams in our service.
To support midwives and nurses to identify their own personal action for quality improvement if required. Use their understanding of personal and professional resilience and support others to develop this attribute.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will provide leadership to the Divisional Professional Advocates, developing a strategy and effective communication to ensure the team are kept informed of current issues so that the A-EQUIP model is implemented.
You will provide support to implement quality improvement initiatives to improve the safety and quality of patient care and staff experience leading to improved engagement and retention.
Utilise expert knowledge and leadership qualities to support the Heads of service lines in implementing and monitoring practice, ensuring that there are robust clinical governance assurance systems in place.
You will demonstrate a caring and compassionate leadership style to support the wider team managing complex and sensitive situations.

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
- Nursing/Midwifery Degree or equivalent
- Successful completion of PMA or PNA course
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Teaching qualification or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Masters Level qualification or equivalent
- Experience of working in Midwifery, Children’s, Neonatal or Gynaecology Services
Knowledge, experience, skills and abilities
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience of broad knowledge of midwifery or nursing practice and A-Equip including Quality Improvement work
- Leadership skills e.g. presenting; report writing; managing change and excellent communication skills
- Evidence of being able to manage own diary via Microsoft Outlook, organise and manage meetings as a PMA/PNA
- Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative and prioritise workload
- Personally resilient and able to manage complexity and work in an ambiguous or changing environment
- Acts as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust’s values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice
- Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
- Work with enthusiasm, insight and genuine interest within the multidisciplinary team. Experience of working as part of a team and can demonstrate principles of effective team working
