Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational therapist to join our Band 5 rotation.

You will have an opportunity to work within our integrated therapy team working closely with multi-disciplinary teams in our inpatient and outpatient departments, providing comprehensive assessments and intervention.

Core working hours Monday – Friday, but you will be expected to work within any shift or on-call rotas in operation, which includes weekends and public holidays

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities/Key Responsibilities 

Progress to supervise and appraise less experienced staff, with the support of the team leader. Take on increasing responsibility for the day-to-day management of the clinical area.

Professional Development, Education and Training     

Consolidate and learn new skills and competencies to provide holistic care using the Therapy Competency Framework, develop clinical reasoning and treatment techniques through active participation in training and development. 

Management and Leadership 

Be responsible for the organisation of own caseload and appropriately delegate to other staff members to ensure effective time management and assist the team in the  running of the clinical area.

Planning and Organisation

Use clinical reasoning skills and techniques to assess, diagnose, plan and offer a range of treatment options; Work as an autonomous practitioner with access to guidance from specialist therapists when necessary. Maintain clear, accurate and concise patient records in line with departmental and professional standards and include relevant outcome measures.

Communications and Working Relationships

To communicate effectively with patients and carers , provide patient centred care, encourage self-management, maximise rehabilitation potential and  ensure understanding of the condition.  Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing, other AHP's and colleagues.

Person specification

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Experience of working in the NHS in the UK
  • Deliver evidence based Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment
  • Manage own workload and prioritise appropriately
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbal, non-verbal and written when interacting with other team members, clients and other professionals
  • Demonstrate working effectively as a team member
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and interest in working for the Trust
  • Demonstrate commitment to personal development and CPD.
Desirable criteria
  • Valid UK Driving License
