Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Band 7 Education Lead Radiographer to provide professional leadership for education, training and workforce development across our Radiology service.
This is a key senior role within the Radiology leadership team, responsible for ensuring high‑quality education and training for students, newly qualified staff and the wider multidisciplinary team. The post holder will play a central role in developing clinical competence, supporting preceptorship and advanced practice pathways, and enhancing staff experience, retention and professional development across the service.
You will work closely with Modality Leads, Clinical Leads, Higher Education Institutions and the wider Trust education infrastructure to ensure safe, effective and forward‑thinking education delivery aligned to national standards and local service priorities.

Main duties of the job
Provide strategic and operational leadership for education and training within Radiology, ensuring high‑quality delivery across all staff groups.
Lead and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate radiography education, including student placements, mentorship and assessment processes.
Oversee and develop preceptorship and induction programmes for newly qualified staff.
Support CPD, role development and enhanced/advanced practice pathways in line with workforce and service needs.
Act as a professional role model, maintaining advanced clinical competence and credibility within practice.
Work collaboratively with HEI partners, ensuring compliance with placement standards, quality assurance and student experience requirements.
Support clinical leaders in identifying training needs, managing performance and embedding evidence‑based practice.
Contribute to audit, quality improvement and service development activities related to education and workforce development.
Provide pastoral and professional support to staff and students, including support following significant or emotionally challenging events.
Ensure education delivery supports patient safety, clinical governance and regulatory compliance, including IR(ME)R, mandatory training and competency assurance.

Essential:
Degree (or equivalent) in Diagnostic Radiography
HCPC registration as a Radiographer
Significant post‑registration experience within Radiology
Demonstrable experience in education, mentorship or training delivery
Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
Evidence of ongoing CPD and commitment to education and workforce development
Desirable:
Postgraduate qualification or modules in education, leadership or clinical practice
Practice Educator / Mentor / Assessor qualification
Experience of audit, quality improvement or education governance
Knowledge of HEI placement processes and workforce development frameworks

- Teaching qualification (e.g. PGCERT, FHEA, or equivalent)
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- In‑depth knowledge of radiographic practice, education and competency‑based training
- Knowledge of preceptorship, student education and workforce development pathways
- Ability to lead change, influence practice and support service improvement
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of higher education processes, placement management and assessment
- Understanding of workforce planning, role development and extended practice frameworks
- Experience of audit, quality improvement or service evaluation related to education
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post registration experience as a Radiographer in a leadership role
- Demonstrable experience of teaching, mentoring, supervising or educating staff and/or students
- Experience supporting competency development and clinical skills progression
- Experience of supporting staff development and providing professional or pastoral support
Desirable criteria
- Experience leading or coordinating education programmes or training initiatives
- Experience working collaboratively with Higher Education Institutions
