Job overview
Bangor ED’s Clinical Fellow posts are the original and best year out of training. These posts offer the opportunity to live on the doorstep of Snowdon and Anglesey, and gain an appreciation of the challenges of rural EM that city training can never prepare you for.
These are Senior clinical fellow posts in rural EM with a fabulous bonus – nearly 25% of the job plan is away from the shop floor with your choice of personal development time, plus dedicated SPA time. Choose from original PHEM, Medical Education, Global EM or Quality Improvement. Some options can be mixed and matched, and we’d particularly welcome applicants wishing to do MedEd.
The posts are open to all those with experience equivalent to ACCS (including international applicants) and at least 5 years’ post-graduation training. We offer a flexible annualised rota with the option of working less than full-time. These posts provide 44 days of development time over 12 months, plus 22 days of SPA (pro-rata for those working less than full-time).
The hospital component of the posts is in the Emergency Department in Ysbyty Gwynedd in North West Wales. All our fellows are expected to take an active part in teaching, service development and audit alongside our HSTs, and for those wishing to put particular effort into CV-enhancement or who wish to start a research portfolio, you will find enthusiastic educational supervisors standing by to assist.
Main duties of the job
· You must have completed ACCS (EM, Anaesthetics or AM)
· Alternatively, if you have trained abroad or have had a non-standard career to date, you’ll need to demonstrate you have comparable experience to those who have completed UK ACCS. Your application form must include details on the amount of time you have spent training in EM related acute specialties. Better still, get in touch to discuss eligibility.
· Applicants with fewer than 10 months’ previous EM experience are not eligible for posts under 12 months’ duration.
· If you’re on run-through training, you’d need to come on OOPE – please discuss your plans with your TPD as soon as possible (6 months notice to your TPD is normally required).
· You must hold the MRCEM/FRCEM Intermediate, Primary FRCA, MRCP or equivalent (or expect to do so by the starting date)
· Please check the Person Specification carefully, and if you are applying for the PHEM post, note the Occupational Health requirements.
· If you’re an EM Higher Specialist Trainee, and would like to come to Bangor without delaying your CCT, talk to us about coming on OOPT (sadly no PHEM etc but most of the other benefits, including one whole day a week of SPA!). If you want to guarantee yourself a slot for OOPT, you’d need to apply here, alongside the Clinical Fellows.
