Job overview
This exciting opportunity is suitable for a senior registrar level candidate (post FRCS Ortho/ post CCT) looking to advance their skills in hip and knee arthroplasty. Working with three consultants, the successful candidate will be exposed to wide range of arthroplasty techniques including Robotic assisted knee replacements, personalised alignment techniques, partial knee replacements, minimally invasive hip replacements (posterior approach and direct anterior approach) and day surgery arthroplasty.
Main duties of the job
The post will be predominantly focussed on elective surgery (up to three all day elective lists) although there will be some trauma commitments as well. The candidate will also be expected to get involved in research and departmental teaching activities.

The Department provides elective and emergency in-patient, day-case and outpatient services to a catchment area of approximately 240,000 residents.
This position will be based in Ysbyty Gwynedd, which is located in Bangor, North West Wales, adjacent to the Menai Straits and in the shadow of the mountains of Snowdonia. Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full Registration with GMC with a license to practice
- FRCS (Ortho)
- Satisfy UK/EEA Immigration regulations or eligible for work permit
Desirable criteria
- Post CCT at the time of commencement of the fellowship
Training & Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to provide a complete employment history
- 48 months in Trauma & Orthopaedics not including foundation modules
- Broad Based experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics
Desirable criteria
- Previous middle grade experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics Surgery
Basic Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- General medical procedures and skills appropriate to the grade
- • Supervision and teaching of junior doctors and nursing staff
- Ability to know when to ask for help
- Ability to apply knowledge
- Ability to write relevant, legible clinical notes.
- Safe and effective oral communication skills.
- Willingness to involve patients in their management.

Desirable criteria
- Competent in providing Trauma & Orthopaedics Emergency On-call at Middle Grade level
- Clinical experience outside speciality.
- Additional experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics surgery
- Advanced IT Skills including knowledge of web site authoring.
