Job overview

Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellow  Cardiology Medicine post commencing as soon as possible, a two year post.

Main duties of the job

  1. Develop knowledge, skills and experience in clinical research
  2. Gain experience in the conceptualisation, development and delivery of clinical trials with a focus on cardiology medicine
  3. Facilitate expansion of the commercial clinical trial portfolio within cardiology medicine at BCUHB
  4. Undertake a period of clinical research to fulfil the requirements to gain a postgraduate research qualification (MSc or equivalent)
  5. Contribute to the delivery of the expanding undergraduate medical education provided by the North Wales Medical School
  6. Gain specialist knowledge in clinical aspects of cardiology medicine.  
  7. Maintain and develop clinical practice in internal medicine

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Roles & responsibilities 

 Research and Quality Improvement (3 days per week)

 Formulate a novel research question, develop a protocol and undertake a programme of high-quality supervised research leading to the award of a higher post-graduate research degree

  1. Work with a named Principal Investigator to expand the portfolio of clinical trials within respiratory medicine including
    1. Appraising potential new trials for adoption
    2. Participating in the site initiation visits, recruitment of participants, undertaking clinical trial related visits and procedures, gathering data and working with the clinical trial team to deliver all elements of clinical trial activity
  2. Identify areas for quality improvement within respiratory medicine and design and implement change that leads to better patient focused clinical outcomes

 Clinical

1. Assume responsibility for clinical role in care of the cardiology medicine, at level commensurate with experience.

 

  1. Cardiology experience will be gained in the specialist  clinics, the  MDT.  These are ‘research active’ clinics, so there is a natural combination of specialist experience dovetailed with clinical trial recruitment and research activity.

 

  1. There is one day per week ‘on call’ in acute internal medicine.  This is a fixed session, based in the Emergency Quarter undertaking general medical receiving at medical registrar level.

 

Education

 1.      Contribute to placement and clinical supervision of students.

2.      Run the respiratory departmental education programme

3.      Deliver lecture, classroom and simulation-based teaching to students in relation to “chronic disease” specialties and geriatric medicine and other aspects of undergraduate curricula.

4.      Mentor of students and junior colleagues involved with medical education.

5.      Help to identify teaching and training opportunities within the acute and community hospitals and channel these resources for the benefit of the students.

6.      Undertake education development and quality improvement project activity with the support of the local and wider Medical Education team.
